I have spent most of the past 2 weeks upgrading the website to make your wholesale shopping more efficient and productive. I have also been getting inquiries about outsourcing so I thought I would discuss that as well. Today’s topics:

1. New Site & Search – I changed the navigation on the site to make it more intuitive and quicker to find what you are looking for. If you have not been on the site in the past couple days, please take a look, I hope you will like it. The most dramatic feature which my customers have been clamoring about for years is a search feature. Examples of some searches you can conduct:

You can also search by productID if you are looking for a specific item you bought in the past.
2. Oustourcing:
Times have changed dramatically over the past 5 years. I don’t work for Elance, but I am fond of their system because it works very well and is an extremely good value. A couple examples. 3 days ago I was stuck on a website coding problem I just could not figure out. I had spent about 4 hours already and could not solve and was very frustrated. On a whim I posted a project on Elance which took all of 5 minutes. Within 2 hours I had about 5 bids. Four of those were from contractors in India and other Asian countries. Believe it or not the bid I selected was a guy in Pennsylvania. He was not the cheapest but was easiest to communicate with and reasonably priced and understood the context of the problem. The next day we spoke on the phone and within 2 hours I had my solution (the search feature on the site currently). Cost: $75 and it probably saved me an entire day of programming. American or European contractors will cost maybe $40/ hour vs. $10 for those based in India, Bangladesh or other developing countries. But whoever you choose be sure to communicate directly, preferably by phone, before you make your choice. In the end, don’t be too enamored by the crazy-low prices you see from the guy in Mongolia. You need someone who you can connect and communicate with effectively.

3. Google Adwords Help. Many of my customers ask me about online advertising. Google is a great place to start and it is very easy to get going. Although it is not usually economical for retail jewellry, it is worth a shot if you have a niche in some other product or service. I wrote a Google Adwords white paper that may be useful if you are considering Adwords – providing some tips and guidelines. Let me know if you find it useful.
4. Buy Back Program. As a way to help my customers who may have bit off more than they can chew, and fulfill my own need for a constant stream of new product, I started this program last year. Basically if you have products that you have bought from me, at any time, that you could not sell (after the 10 day return program), you can send it back for about 30% of what you originally paid. Be sure to read the details on that page before sending anything back! I don’t really want you sending your jewellery back, but if you are in dire straits or over your head at some point, I am here to help.
5. 40% Off Silver Gemchip Bracelets 24 hours. I am really sold on these silver gemchip bracelets. They are very low priced ($6-$7), great quality and although these are priced similar to costume jewelry the gemstones are natural and all include sterling silver clasps. Frankly, my customers have been slow to adopt these new designs but the ones who have, have been impressed. I have lowered the price about 40% on most of these for just one day.
