As you may know I offer a rewards program for my customers – currently I give back 3% in rewards on all purchases, and rewards are valid for three months. I will donate all proceeds to the International Institute of Rhode Island (IIRI)- an organization I volunteer with. The IIRI is a resettlement agency that helps newly arrived refugees start a new life in the United States. How to lose a customer

Last week I called a company I found on the web. I was looking for some niche office supplies. Mind you there were a hundred sites selling the same thing. I called to ask a question. The person who answered the phone guaranteed in two simple words that we would never do business together; “please hold (click)”. I’m sure there is a fortune cookie out there that addresses this scenario with a moral something like: ‘An existing customer is platinum but a new customer is gold (or sterling silver)’.

Some beautiful beads in amethyst, amber, citrine, peridot, smokey quartz, garnet, jade, crystal, flourite, emerald, hematite, labradorite, lapis, moonstone, rose quartz, tanzanite and tigers eye. Luna Sandal 5ok Race Report

A couple days ago I completed the Bimbler’s Bluff 50k Trail Race for the 2nd year. I had way more fun this time and ran 6 minutes faster even though I did so without shoes. Sort of.
For the past couple years I have been running barefoot/ minimalist. My fav pair of minimalist footwear are my luna sandals. I always find it ironic that Barefoot Ted makes his living selling footwear. For the road I love the 6mm neoprense. It is super light (2 ounce/ sandal) and molds to your foot very nicely unlike the cherry vibram sole which flops around. But 6mm is not thick enough for rough terrain, for me at least.
3 days prior to the race my Luna Leadvilles arrived. Last year I ran the Bluff in Inov 8′s X-talon. But my feet were KILLIN’ me at the end. I was quite apprehensive about running in sandals this year because I recalled lots of rocky fire-roads that hurt in sneakers last year. Turns out I had nothing to worry about, though the race did not go exactly as I had hoped. I lost about 5 minutes in the first half of the race adjusting the tension in the hemp laces. Sourcing Jewelry From India & China: Buyer Beware!

In the past few weeks I have heard a number of horror stories and concerns from my customers in regards to buying jewelry direct from overseas or from unreputable wholesalers in the USA. The world is much ‘flatter’ than it was even 10 years ago creating opportunities for trade that did not exist previously. Anyone with a little internet savvy can easily find factories in china or India from which to source products. On the surface this often seems like the way to go, but I want to provide some food for thought on this topic because most of the time this is not the right call for a small retailer.
I just spoke to a customer who told me she bought bracelets form china advertised as “sterling silver” they were about 20 grams and she bought them for $7 each. Hmmm the cost of the silver alone for each bracelet would be $30. So when she received the product she saw that they were all stamped “925″ but were in fact silver plated.
