I hope you had a nice weekend. I just updated the Secret Page with 17 new items at up to 50% off the regular wholesale price.

These are not overstock or junky items I am trying to get rid of! Just a random selection of the same high quality jewellry we have on our site every day. Sourcing Wholesale Jewelry – 15 Questions To Ask

In the last email I discussed some steps to help your business get ahead during the winter. One of the most important is choosing trusted sources. Although I sell high quality product and provide to my customers what I hope is considered very good service, I know most of my clients have other sources. The way I see it, it is important that you choose your other sources wisely because it will only make your business stronger.

Here are 15 questions to research or ask your next supplier, to help determine if they are right for you, and my rationale for each:

1) Are they really a wholesaler?
“wholesale prices” usually translates to slightly below retail. If they sell retail or simply require you to purchase more than $x then they are not a true wholesaler. Wholesalers only sell to other businesses. Period.

2) Do they have a minimum order/ Pricing Structure?
Most do. But inversely to #1, just because there is no min does not imply that they are a retailer. Some of the most reputable wholesalers (like us) do NOT require a min order. More importantly, check if there are terms or tiers for getting the best prices. Some companies require high volume purchases ($1000+) before they give you the best prices. The base price may not be much better than retail.

3) What is the return policy
Check if there is a re-stocking fee and what the terms are for returning product. Is your satisfaction guaranteed? Most companies these days have very generous return policies, so if they don’t, be skeptical.

5) Do they allow drop shipping?
This should raise some flags. Personally, I am not a fan of drop-shipping. The model is a customer service killer. I would recommend staying away from dropship companies.

Wholesale Amber Necklaces & Earrings

Today I updated wholesalegemshop.com with some beautiful Baltic Amber and Sterling Silver Necklaces and Earrings. Also added a few really nice pendants that were out of stock. All can be seen on the New Arrivals page.
On another note. The recession is technically “over”. Personally I don’t put much stock in these types of announcements because all it really means is that the economy has leveled off.  However, there is one very important indicator that I do see value in. I looked at my numbers from last year at this time. And for the first time in 12 months, my numbers for the past 30 days were slightly better than same period last year. And numbers for past 2 weeks are significantly better.
What does this mean and why is it significant? I wholesale to retailers all over the world. The fact that my numbers are up means retailers are buying and amber earrings sterling silver(assumedly) selling more. And because this is occurring in November/December indicates to me that holiday sales are beating the expectations of my customers since usually, as a wholesaler, in December my sales decline but this time around they are picking up.
So, there is a grain of optimism. Once again, I am fully stocked over here in Rhode Island. And overnight shipping to most locations in the USA (and 3-5 day elsewhere in the world) is just $12 (USA) to $29 (international). Still plenty of time to get wholesale jewelry to sell before Christmas. Hanukkah… well, you are pusing the envelope but still 3 nights left so possible!

Free Jewelry Marketing Tools

We have a couple great features which are available at no cost to our customers. The printable/ custom wholesale jewelry catalog is one and the Virtual Website the other. Here is an example of the catalog you can create in our admin area.

This took me about 3 minutes. You can either print the catalog on your own printer, save to a file and print professionally or save as a pdf file and email to your friends or post on your website (note – this is the only format we allow use of our photos for items that you have not purchased).
Here is an example of the Virtual Jewelry Website you can setup up lightning fast – in just about 2-3 minutes.

You can send (your) link to your friends or customers via email or even post it on your website. It’s a great way to drum up extra business. For example if you are at your store or at a show and someone wants to know what else you can get them in Amethyst, with this virtual site you can easily show them and make the sale. Keep in mind, though, this is not intended as a fully functional ecommerce site. Also note that these pages are hosted on another domain that I own, not Wholesalegemshop.com so no danger of anyone discovering your source.

My customers that are most successful with these features use them to augment their business, not stand-alone.
I made up a couple new custom wholesale jewelry lots:

I call this one the Value Lot because I picked out the items on the site that are
1) Priced lower than they probably should be ;)   and
2) Quality, low price-point items that will move quickly.
You are free to pick and choose from this lot – ala-carte. Just wanted to try and simplify things as much as possible for you if you need some jewelry that meets this criteria.

$12 Next Day Ship, Lagniappe

I realize that for the next 3 weeks time is of the essense. Through Decemeber 31 priority mail (2-3 days delivery within the United States) will cost just $4.99 (normally $7.99 for orders under $130). Express Mail (usually next day delivery) is only $16. BUT on orders > $200 Express Mail is only $12! For international orders the Express Mail Service shipping method will cost just $29 (normally $35). Express Mail will get your order to you in 3-7 days. Average delivery time is about 4 days with this method. In addition, I will be adding daily Lagniappe to all orders for the next 2 weeks.

What is lagniappe you ask? Well, it’s a little something special my southern customers turned me on to some years back. Just include the lagniappe code in the COMMENTS section when you checkout. I will tweet the daily code and/ or post on our blog. Today’s lagniappe is: 5 pairs of malachite stud earrings, valid on all orders > $75. The code is: LAG-3mal.

I have added a few higher end pendants to the New Arrivals page, where you will also find 100+ new items that have been added in the past 3 weeks. Sell More Jewelry in November & December

I am not much for segways – here is some information I hope you will find useful i marketing your jewelry and buying your stock.

1) Your area has a bunch of craft shows, festivals and church bazaars coming up in November and December. Festivalnet.com is a great resource to identify these markets. You can easily find all the events you can sell within a 25 mile radius of your home or in your entire state in seconds.

2) Once you are our customer (after placing first order), login to your account on Wholesalegemshop.com and you can access 2 very useful features to help with your sales whether you have a retail store, do home parties or craft shows.

New Feature – Recommendations

About half of my customers are starting new businesses and often ask me about what they should buy as an initial purchase. So I added a new feature to the site which pre-packages items based on jewelry type and amount of desired purchase. Look at the bottom of the product category list and expand “Best Sellers By $”.

The Future – Make’s You Think…

I took this photo in 1996 in Khotang District, Nepal. I was back there 2 years after finishing my Peace Corps service to visit friends and see if any of the water supply projects I helped design and build were still functioning.

This is my favorite photo of all time. The photo truly represents the lives of these children. Hope, despair, the future, the past … life.

This has nothing to do with Wholesale Jewelry! Just in an introspective mood.
